Beacon

A free ridge at the top of town, a pizza counter on Main, and a Sunday concert in a room you can walk to.

Perfect fall day in Beacon

  1. 01 · Morning

Mount Beacon is free, dawn to dusk. October weekends fill the lot, and the Highlands park page sends overflow cars onto the surrounding streets. Go early if the leaves are the point.

  2. 02 · Lunch

Pizza & Stuff, 332 Main Street, prints Monday to Saturday 10:00 am to 8:30 pm and is closed Sunday. Ernesto and Lucy have run it since 2004.

  3. 03 · Sunday afternoon

Howland Chamber Music Circle plays Sundays at 4:00 pm at the Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street. The series page prints $40, students $10, and a limited pay-what-you-wish release one week prior.

Getting here

Metro-North’s Hudson Line is the calmer arrival for Beacon and Cold Spring. Hyde Park is a taxi from Poughkeepsie. New Paltz and Phoenicia want a car. Times on the day-trip pages are a guide, not a promise.
