What to do
The trails
Open sunrise to sunset. The page says terrain runs from easy to challenging and tells you to use the park's own maps, not a blog. Camping and fires are prohibited.
Little Stony Point and Mount Beacon
Extra parking for Little Stony Point is at the Cold Spring train station. Extra parking for Mount Beacon is on the surrounding streets in Beacon. Cars parked illegally can be ticketed or towed.
Bannerman Island
Bannerman Island is only by guided tour with the Bannerman Castle Trust. Private kayaks and canoes may not land. The page lists (845) 831-6346.
A quieter time
The park says weekends are very busy and trails can be crowded. If the marked spaces are full, go somewhere else. Breakneck Ridge, other area trails, and the Breakneck Metro-North stop closed on April 21, 2025 for about two years of construction. The page does not call any other trailhead quiet.
Parking
The page says parking is limited at trailheads and along the roads. It does not print a vehicle use fee. Check parks.ny.gov.
Dogs
Up to two pets in day-use areas, crated or on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Not in playgrounds, buildings, boardwalks, pools, spray-grounds, or guarded beaches.
Empire Pass
Hudson Highlands is not on the Empire Pass facility list we read. Check the guidelines page.
