Crowd level: Easy. Busy only at the obvious hour.

Best season Weekday mornings. Tour schedules change with the season. October is busy in Hyde Park. Check hours before you promise someone the sofa.

Drive About 1 hr 45 min–2 hr 15 min

Same Hyde Park drive as Springwood. The mansion is north of the Roosevelt home, a few minutes by car.

Parking. The site has its own lot. Do not assume a Springwood ticket parks you here.

The Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, a few minutes from Springwood. The house is a guided tour. The fees page lists a $15 standard pass.

Worth knowing

  • Pairing the houses

Springwood and the Vanderbilt house are separate tours. Vanderbilt’s fees page lists its own $15 standard pass and a $45 annual pass. Read nps.gov the day you go.

  • The library

The two houses plus the FDR library is more than one easy morning. Eat in Hyde Park between them.

The short version

Entrance to the Vanderbilt Mansion is by guided tour. A standard pass is $15. Children under 16 do not need an entrance pass. The park does not take cash. An annual pass on that page is $45. Access to the road and the parking spaces is free when the road is open. Mailing address on the site: 4097 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538. Phone (845) 444-9166.

Music

Fisher Center at Bard

Up the river in Annandale. A summer festival and a year-round calendar. Not a concert on the Vanderbilt lawn unless the hall says so.

Official calendar
