Crowd level: Easy. Busy only at the obvious hour

Best season April–June and September. The valley is greenest after rain. Midday heat is the reason to walk early.

Sidemen is a valley under Mount Agung, with rice, a river, and weaving compounds. It is not a secret. It is also not a swing platform with a drone. Walk the terrace edge and buy cloth from the person who made it.

The short version

Agung’s 1963 eruption reshaped east Bali and still sits over the valley. Sidemen’s other history is cloth: songket and ikat made in family compounds. The terraces are farmed. Stay on the path. The field is someone’s work.

A warung with a few trays

Nasi campur from a warung that cooked this morning. If there is a drone and a swing, you are in the wrong field. Eat, pay, and leave the terrace to the people growing it.

A game nearby

A banjar game at dusk

Bali United is the island’s pro club and a commercial matchday. Skip it. Football on a village pitch at dusk is the game that belongs in this valley.
