Crowd level: Easy. Busy only at the obvious hour

Best season May–September for the lawn. A clear winter afternoon is better than you think, if the wind is down.

Letná is the park above the bridges, with a metronome where a giant Stalin once stood. The view is the reason. The empty plinth is the history lesson. Bring a beer from the garden only if you can still hear the trees.

The short version

A huge Stalin monument stood here from 1955 until it was demolished in 1962. The metronome, from 1991, moves on the plinth. The park itself is older, a civic terrace over the Vltava. Look at the bridges, then look at what is no longer there.

The park garden on a weekday, a real meal below

The beer garden is fine on a weekday afternoon. For dinner, drop into Holešovice rather than eating only chips with the view. The view does not need a marked-up menu.

A game nearby

The skate bowl and the lawns

Skaters use the park. In winter, nearby rinks. No pro team is required, and none is hiding behind the metronome.
