Best season Year-round, dinner, with a weekend brunch on their site. Happy hour hours are posted there and can change.

A neighborhood mussels restaurant at 1431 Third Avenue, at 81st Street. The Shapiros run it. Pots of Prince Edward Island mussels are the specialty. It is a local room that got bigger, not a secret.

Worth knowing

  • Where

Southeast corner of 81st and Third, not the old address. Their site lists hours. A neighborhood restaurant can be loud. Ask for upstairs if you want quieter.

The short version

The New York Times reported in 2022 that Flex Mussels left its first East 80s address after a fire and 15 years, and reopened nearby so it could stay in the neighborhood. The owners named were Bobby Shapiro, his wife Laura, and their daughter Alexandra. The menu is still built around mussels.

Music

Carnegie Hall

A short walk in spirit, a real walk in the city. Recitals and orchestras. The owner's example is a night like Ludovico Einaudi. The calendar says who is actually booked.
