Crowd level: Mixed. Go early, or pick a weekday

Best season A weekday outside August. High tide shrinks the beach. The village is the view even when you cannot swim.

A cliff village with a restaurant at the water and a rock pool the tide fills. The restaurant says it stands on an old mill site and has been in this spot since the late 1960s. The pool is the ocean, not a club.

Worth knowing

  • Tide

Visit Sintra says the sand can vanish at high tide. The restaurant has listed hours of 12:00–22:30. Check both the tide and the booking.

The short version

The name means watermills of the sea. The restaurant's own history says the room is based on an old mill, with photographs from 1912, and that the bathing installation was licensed in 1968. Visit Sintra notes how little sand there is, and that it can disappear at high tide.

The restaurant is the point of the pattern: a table in the rocks beside the pool. Their site lists daily hours. Those can change. Book if you want the window.
