Crowd level: Easy. Busy only at the obvious hour

Best season April–June and September–October. The water is the reason. Mornings are calmer on the road.

Amed is a string of fishing villages on the northeast coast, not a single resort. Painted jukung boats sit on black sand. You snorkel, you eat fish, you do not collect beach clubs.

The short version

The coast lived on fishing and salt. The painted boats are working boats. Ask before you climb into one for a picture. The famous wreck dive is up the road at Tulamben, not a prop in the village. Amed itself is the shore and the hills behind it.

Pick the warung the fishermen are using. Grilled fish, rice, sambal. If the menu is a leather folder with a drone photo, walk to the next boat.
