Best season Weekends. Their site has listed Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and has also listed the place closed Monday to Friday. Read the taproom page the week you go.

Drive About 1 hr 45 min–2 hr

General guidance from Midtown to Highland. A calm midday is faster than a Friday afternoon.

Parking. On the farm. It is a rural road. Do not block the lane.

A small cidery and taproom on a family apple farm in Highland. Weekend hours. No table reservations. Dogs and families are on their own sign.

Worth knowing

  • Just show up

They say they do not reserve tables, and that the taproom is family- and dog-friendly. Private events are a separate booking. Weekend hours have differed across their own pages.

  • Weekend only

Their own pages have listed Saturday and Sunday afternoons and have also listed the taproom closed Monday to Friday. Read the taproom page the week you go.

With kids. Their taproom page says family-friendly. It is a cidery, so the adults are drinking. Kids are welcome in the room. It is not a playground.

With a group. Walk-in tables are not reserved. Weddings and private parties are. Use the events form if the group is the point.

The short version

Bad Seed pours cider from apples they say they grow on a Hudson Valley farm, at 43 Baileys Gap Road, Highland. Ulster County tourism calls it a multi-generation farm. The taproom is the visit. It is not a festival grounds.

Food nearby

The taproom kitchen or the food truck

Their pages mention pizza, snacks, or a food truck, and the hours do not always match from one page to the next. Eat what is on that weekend. Or bring nothing and just have a cider.

Farms and stands nearby

  • Locust Grove Fruit Farm

A fruit farm in Milton, south of Highland. Their page lists a U-pick and a farm stand at 199 North Road. It does not itemize the stand. Bad Seed's own pages are the taproom, not a produce list this desk could copy.

Season. Their page says Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It does not print the months.

The brewing company at 162 North Road is a different door. The farm phone on their page is 845-232-6853.

    Official page
  • Heart of the Hudson Valley Farmers Market

Their site says local, farm-fresh food for a meal, at Cluett Schantz Park in Milton.

Season. Their site says every Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine, June through mid-October, plus a Thanksgiving market on November 18.

Milton is the next town south of the cidery. Locust Grove's page lists this market as June through October and does not mention November 18. Read hhvfarmersmarket.com.

Best season Their fall and winter hours have listed Wednesday–Friday afternoons, Saturday midday, Sunday midday, and Monday–Tuesday closed. Summer may differ. Check the site.

A family-run brewery in a 1920s macaroni factory on Canal Street. Alan and Jennifer Brinton opened it after moving to Rhode Island. The taproom is small, with yard games and a courtyard.

Worth knowing

  • Closed early week

Do not arrive Monday or Tuesday on the current posted season. Dogs are outdoors in the courtyard, not inside the taproom, except service animals. Large groups call ahead.

With kids. Their FAQ calls the taproom family-friendly, with board games, yard games, and soft drinks for people under age. It is still a bar.

With a group. They take reservations for large groups by phone, and private parties by a named contact. A pair of friends does not need a reservation.

The short version

Grey Sail says the building at 63 Canal Street was the Westerly Macaroni Factory. They moved in on 4 April 2011 and brewed a first flagship that November. Food is a summer thing. In the colder months they tell you to bring your own.

Bring food, except in summer

Their FAQ says guests should bring food in fall, winter, and spring. In summer, roughly Memorial Day to Columbus Day, they have had food. Read the current note.
