Ulster County
Phoenicia
The Esopus runs through the hamlet. The tube rental people remember is not operating. The Blue Hole is a separate, colder outing, not the town swimming hole.
Perfect fall day in Phoenicia
01 · Breakfast
Phoenicia Diner, 5681 Route 28, prints 8:00 am to 6:00 pm every day but Wednesday. Eat before you drive farther into the woods. There is no kitchen at the Blue Hole.
02 · Late morning
Walk the creek through the hamlet. Do not book a tube. Town Tinker is not operating.
03 · If you still want water
Peekamoose Blue Hole is in Denning, not in the village. The summer permit window is May 15 through September 15, so October does not need that permit. The water is still cold, and phone service is poor.

Food
Phoenicia Diner
Owner Mike Cioffi’s about page says the diner, built in 1962, serves food from Catskills and Hudson Valley farms when they can get it. The homepage prints 5681 Route 28 and hours of 8:00 am–6:00 pm every day but Wednesday, first come, no reservations.
Their pageFarm stands
- Phoenicia Farmers Market · Sundays, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine, at Parish Field, past the post office and near the Tanbark Trail. The homepage names the outdoor season as May 17 through October 25. The outdoor-market page states the rule as the third Sunday in May through the last Sunday in October. In 2026 those are the same dates. This desk did not find a winter indoor market on their site.

Getting here
Metro-North’s Hudson Line is the calmer arrival for Beacon and Cold Spring. Hyde Park is a taxi from Poughkeepsie. New Paltz and Phoenicia want a car. Times on the day-trip pages are a guide, not a promise.

The quiet base: Phoenicia. The lodge has hammocks on the creek. Peekamoose Blue Hole is the swim nearby, not a place with its own inn on this list.
