Orange

Schunnemunk State Park

Orange County parkland with meadow and a ridge the page puts at 1,664 feet. Eight marked trails, including the Long Path, cover more than 20 miles. Open during daylight hours only.

Checked Tue, Oct 20, 2026 on parks.ny.gov.

What to do

  • The ridge

The page describes 360-degree views of the valleys, a piece of the Hudson, and the farms around the mountain. Trails it names: Long Path, Jessup, Western Ridge, Trestle, Sweet Clover, Otterkill, Dark Hollow, and Barton Swamp.

  • The tracks

The MTA forbids crossing the rail corridor. There is no trail connection between the east and west sides. Use the Otterkill Road lot.

A quieter time

The page does not print a busy hour. It does name the Otterkill Road lot as the way onto the trails, because you cannot cross the tracks.

Parking

Parking on state land is at the Otterkill Road lot. The page does not print a vehicle fee. Check parks.ny.gov.

Empire Pass

Schunnemunk is not on the Empire Pass facility list we read. Check the guidelines page.
