Crowd level: Easy. Busy only at the obvious hour

Best season Their first-jump page has said open daily through 31 October and weekends only in November. That is a seasonal note, not a permanent calendar. Check before you drive.

Drive About 1 hr 30 min–2 hr

Their site says about an hour and twenty minutes north of the George Washington Bridge, and about 70 miles from the city. From Midtown, allow longer. General guidance only.

Parking. At the drop zone. Your reservation time is the arrival time, not the moment you leave the ground.

The tandem drop zone in Gardiner, at 55 Sand Hill Road. Not a city airport and not a festival. A first jump is a tandem. They ask you to reserve.

Worth knowing

  • Before you book

They list a 225-pound weight limit, no dogs on the drop zone, and a plan of two to three hours on site. Weather changes altitude and can cancel the day. Reserve. People with reservations go first.

  • Age

This page has no verified minimum age. Do not assume a child can jump. Spectators can watch from the area they describe. Call and ask before you bring kids as participants.

  • The season line

The season is printed on their first-jump page. Read it before you drive. A closed field is not a viewpoint.

The short version

Skydive the Ranch says it has been jumping over the Hudson Valley for more than 45 years, from a field between Thruway exits 17 and 18. They also tell licensed jumpers to list the drop zone as Blue Sky Ranch in one logging app. The public name on the door is Skydive the Ranch.

Food nearby

Main Street Bistro, New Paltz

The drop zone is not a restaurant. Main Street Bistro is in the village of New Paltz, at 59 Main Street. Their site prints breakfast and lunch most mornings except Tuesday, and dinner Friday–Sunday 4:30–8:00 pm.

The tandem jump

A first jump is with an instructor, from altitude they list as 13,500 feet when the weather allows. It is not a lesson you finish alone on day one.

Farms and stands nearby

  • Gardiner Farmers' Market

A county extension list names a farmers' market on the Rail Trail in Gardiner.

Season. Seasonal. The list puts it on Fridays at Main Street, near Pasquale's. The season line on that list has ended. This desk did not find the market's own page.

Use the phone on the extension list. Do not treat that list as this week's board.
